On 23^rd March 1979, American rock band Van Halen released their second studio album, Van Halen II. It was recorded within a week and less than a year after their breakthrough self-titled album that established the group as one of the most exciting rock bands of their generation.

Produced by Ted Templeman, Van Halen II picks up from where the band left off with their debut album, spotlighting the band’s excellent musicianship and pioneering guitar work of Eddie Van Halen. Many of the songs included on Van Halen II are known to have existed before the release of their debut album in 1978.

Van Halen II peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Top 200 and went on to be certified 5x Platinum in the United States. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from AllMusic referred to the album as "some of the grandest hard rock ever made."
